Summary: CHF 102,000 was allocated from the IFRC’s Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) on 24 September 2012 to support the Ecuadorian Red Cross to deliver assistance to up to 3,000 beneficiaries.
Following the extensive wildfires that affected Ecuador between June and September 2012, the Ecuadorian Red Cross carried out first aid and psychosocial support activities for the affected families and people involved in the disaster’s response efforts. In addition, protective gear and food parcels were provided to 375 families which lost their crops due to the fires. Under the request of the National Society, the operation’s original timeframe was extended for one month from December 2012 to January 2013, in order to ensure the completion of all the activities outlined in the DREF bulletin.
The IFRC, on behalf of the National Society, would like to extend thanks to the Belgian Red Cross and government, which replenished the DREF for the allocation made to this operation.
